The Crown Fountain in Millennium Park

Designed by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa and inspired by the people of Chicago. The fountain consists of two 50-foot glass block towers at each end of a shallow reflecting pool. The towers project video images from a broad social spectrum of Chicago citizens, a reference to the traditional use of gargoyles in fountains, where faces of mythological beings were sculpted with open mouths to allow water, a symbol of life, to flow out. Plensa adapted this practice by having faces of Chicago citizens projected on LED screens and having water flow through a water outlet in the screen to give the illusion of water spouting from their mouths. The water is on from mid-spring through mid-fall each year (weather permitting,) while the images remain on year-round.

Frank Gehry, winner of the National Medal of Art, applied his signature style to this revolutionary outdoor concert venue. The Pavilion stands 120-feet high, with a billowing headdress of brushed stainless steel ribbons that frame the stage opening and connect to an overhead trellis of crisscrossing steel pipes. The trellis supports the sound system, which spans the 4,000 fixed seats and the Great Lawn, which accommodates an additional 7,000 people. This state-of-the-art sound system, the first of its kind in the country, was designed to mimic the acoustics of an indoor concert hall by distributing enhanced sound equally over both the fixed seats and the lawn.

Connecting Millennium Park to Daley Bicentennial Plaza, east of the park, this 925-foot-long winding bridge, Frank Gehry's first, provides incomparable views of the Chicago skyline, Grant Park and Lake Michigan. Clad in brushed stainless steel panels, the BP Bridge complements the Pritzker Pavilion in function as well as design by creating an acoustic barrier from the traffic noise below. It also has a 5% slope to allow easy access for people who are physically challenged.

The ancient Olmec, one of the first complex societies in the Americas, are remembered for their colossal head sculptures, 17 of which have been recovered to date. Each original head is distinctive and believed to embody the likeness of an individual leader. Though all of the heads were carved in a stylized manner, Olmec Head #8 is considered the most naturalistic. The State of Veracruz, Mexico donated Ignacio Perez Solanoâ��s 1700-pound stone replica to the City of Chicago.

106 headless and armless cast iron figures, over 9 feet tall, each weighing nearly eleven hundred pounds. The figures are installed on land where the old Illinois Central Railroad Station once stood. Grant Park Advisory Council President Bob O'Niel claims that the sculptures are "the most controversial art installation in Chicago in a long time." He then added, "It is a wonderful project." Park District Commissioner Cindy Mitchell agrees with O'Niel. She revealed also that bad taste among elites extends far beyond Chicago. According to the Commissioner, famed actor and comedian Robin Williams donated "a nice amount" to have the sculptures installed.

These people walked around in these costumes, unfortunatly we were only able to take a picture of one of them. The body on top is not real... thats the costume, but the eyes behind the mask are... and the arms are... and it "floats" (really its someone walking) in the most terrifying manner. EW.

This sculpture is a 53 foot (16 m) tall stabile located in the Federal Plaza in front of the Kluczynski Federal Building. It weighs 50 tons, is composed of steel, and is vermilion in color. Calder gave the stabile its color, which has come to be called "Calder red", to offset it from the black and steel surroundings of nearby office buildings. The sculpture was presented to the public for the first time on October 25, 1974.

Youâ��ll see the best view and best overview of Chicago. At 1,353 feet (412 meters), the Skydeck is the highest observatory in Chicago. The view is amazing! You can see 40 â�� 50 miles (65 - 80 kilometers) on a clear day. Imagine seeing Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin, just by walking around the Skydeck. And thereâ��s no finer view of Chicago architecture.
